How to design a circuit protection scheme for a Gigabit Ethernet port
2020-08-19Local area Ethernet has developed from 10M to the current Gigabit Ethernet. Gigabit Ethernet is characterized by high efficiency, high speed and high performance, and is widely used in finance, commerce, education, government agencies, factories and mining enterprises and other industries. With the expansion of the application of Gigabit Ethernet port, its protection requirements are also paid more and more attention. As a professional circuit protection expert, SOCAY often encounters customers who need Ethernet port protection. Today, I would like to introduce to you how our the FAE engineers designed a protection scheme for the Gigabit Ethernet port.
Application background
1. Global warming, more thunderstorms
2. After the power supply is damaged by lightning, it is very harmful and the maintenance cost is high
3. High surge protective equipment becomes an industry trend
Protection Circuit Diagram:
Using SOCAY Electronic Components in this solution:
GDT【SC1206-200ASMD】DC Spark-over Voltage:200±30%V,Nominal Impulse Discharge Current(8/20μS):0.5kA,Maximum Capacitance<0.5pF,Minimum Insulation Resistance >100GΩ
GDT【SC1812-90CSMD】DC Spark-over Voltage:90±20%V,Nominal Impulse Discharge Current(8/20μS):2.0kA,Maximum Capacitance<1.0pF,Minimum Insulation Resistance >1GΩ
TVS diode?
TVS【ESD03V32D-LC】Vrwm:3.0V;Vb:4.0V;Vesd:8KV/15KV;Ct(f=1MHz):1.2pF;Package: SOD-323
Applications:
1. Laptop, PAD, home desktop computer, industrial computer
2.Switches/Router
3.camera equipment
4. Network printer
5. Set-top box
6. intelligent transportation system
7.Other devices with Ethernet ports
The Solution Note:
1. The solution uses GDT in the front end of the transformer to do common mode (eight lines) surge protection.
2.The back end of the network transformer uses TVs with small volume and low junction capacitance to absorb differential mode energy. The TVS has fast reaction time and takes into account the function of electrostatic protection.
3. Comply with 802.11 electrical standards.
4. Meet IEC61000-4-5, GBT17626.5 and other surge test standards.
5. Meet IEC61000-4-2, GBT17626.2 and other electrostatic test standards
